Advice and referrals
Nail surgery is needed when toenails are infected and painful. The main cause of infection is due to the toenail becoming ingrown. Ingrown toenails are caused by the way your foot functions as well as a family history of ingrown toenails. The problem can be further exacerbated by incorrect nail cutting.
Nail surgery is performed under local anasethtic and consists of removing either one or both sides of your toenail, or if necessary the whole nail.
Once the surgery is complete, a chemical will be applied to the nail bed before your toe is dressed. This will prevent re-growth of the nail, or the part of the nail that has been removed. You will be given post-operative care advice and be required to return to the clinic within 3-5 days of the surgery for an inclusive check up.
If you are diabetic you are at higher risk of foot related problems. A diabetic assessment includes sensory and vascular tests using a doppler to determine whether you are at risk of potential ulceration. Advice will be given on how to prevent this.
Providing bio-mechanical assessments allows us to effectively analyse poor movement due to gait abnormalities. These can lead to strains, sprains and further problems that can effect the rest of the body.
Once the assessment is complete, we will advise you on the next step to take, and if neccessary prescribe orthotics.
If you have damaged or unsightly nails, we can reconstruct using Wilde Pedique. This is a cosmetic procedure.
"Just returned from a busy day trip to central London where I was on my feet all day.
I visited Michelle Bird the previous week to sort out a nagging foot pain, which turned out to be related to a knee issue. Michelle took the time to look at how my feet actually walked (sole on the floor), delivered a first class chiropody experience and then recommended some insoles for my shoes.
I could not have gone to London without all this help from Michelle who made my feet become fantastic once again."
"This was my first experience at a chiropodist. I found Michelle to be very, very professional and had a very easy way of explaining my condition and giving me the appropriate advice. The service I received from Michelle was exceptional and will definitely be returning."
"Can’t recommend enough. Fantastic practice, friendly and very professional service. I’ve had problems for several years with painful damaged toenails. Michelle is the only chiropodist that I have visited that has taken the time to give me a name for the condition and explain what may have caused the damage. Not only this, Michelle took time to talk me through the various treatment options available, including introducing me to the idea of toenail reconstruction, which Michelle carried out for me with amazing results. For the first time in years I’ve not had to hide my toes away and open toe shoes are no longer a no no! Will definitely return. Thank you."
"Fantastic professional service. I was made to feel comfortable from the moment I walked through the door and was greeted by a friendly receptionist. I had a very sore ingrown toenail and Michelle sorted it out for me. She gave me tips and hints how to care for it. I was so pleased. Feet feel great now. Thank you."
"I was very wary about having the hard skin on my feet dealt with as I have a real aversion to my feet being touched! I read the reviews for Michelle and decided to take the plunge. I am glad I did, everyone was so friendly, even the receptionist made me feel at home, Michelle did a great job, chatting away, and so gentle. my aversion overcome, my feet felt wonderful, hense me leaving this review, to encourage anyone with painful feet to go along, it really does make a huge difference. Thank you Michelle and staff for an excellent service for a more than reasonable price."
